Kanchanaburi: The province is located in the west of Thailand, and is situated 129 km from Bangkok and covers a total area of approximately 19,483 km² being the country’s third largest province after Nakhon Ratchasima and Chiang Mai. Topographically, it is covered with timber and evergreen forests. The district covers the source valleys of the rivers Kwae Yai and Kwae Noi ("River Kwai"), which merge at the city Kanchanaburi and form the Mae Klong River there.
Bong Ti is a transnational cross-border point expected to gain in importance if the planned Dawei deepwater port project goes ahead, along with a highway and a railway line between Bangkok and that harbor.


River Kwai, It is frequented by tourists who have been attracted by its long history and ancient civilizations, a location of the Bridge over the River Khwae(also spelt ‘Kwai’) and scene of the World War II historic. The province is also famous for its natural attractions such as forests, mountains, caves and waterfalls. in this province is also listed in the UNESCO world heritage list.

The 160 km journey to Kanchanaburi Visit Jeath War Museum, the museum itself is replica bamboo huts used to house the Allied POWs during the World War II. The long huts contain: various photographs taken during the war, drawings and painting by POWs, maps, weapons and other war memorabilia. The acronym JEATH represents the fated meeting of Japan, England, Australia / America, Thailand and Holland of Kanchanaburi during World War II. Then we visit the Allied War Cemetery. The Cemetery is the main POW cemetery associated with victims of the Burma Railway. 6,982 POWs are buried there, mostly Australian, British and Dutch.

Then visit world-famous Bridge over the River Kwai, a part of the Death Railway constructed by Allied prisoners of war. Take leisurely walks around town and pictures on the world-renowned Death Railway

 

Train ride on Death Railway through magnificent scenery, passing over the original wooden viaduct constructed by Allied POWs.

Visit "Hellfire Pass", 80km northwest of Kanchanaburi. 'Hellfire'was the name the POWs gave to a 1000m pass cutting through solid mountain rock. 400 Australian and British prisoners worked around the clock in 12-18 hours shifts for 12 weeks.
